When I first started thinking about building what will become Heroic Tourney there were two points of inspiration:
Matthew Keys bemoaning “I can’t make money in this biz” talking about RPG’s on Facebook. and My wife was watching Chopped while I was rumbling about on the computer. The two ideas collided in a flash and HT was born.
I think I need to talk a little bit about Chopped because there are people who when I say the key line of “an RPG tournament meets Chopped!” they go either “What is an RPG tournament?” or “What is Chopped?”

Which might almost Kill Ted Allen that there are people who have never heard of Chopped. That is something I need to address on my end in some ways.
The basic show description is :”Four chefs call on their culinary skills as they face off against one another to prepare a spectacular three-course meal consisting of an appetizer, entree and dessert. The catch? In each round, they have to use all the ingredients the show provides them, however unlikely they might be.” Look the guy has sharp implements and fire everywhere! The chefs make magic, tasty, tasty, beautiful magic! Darn well could be a tournament in a magical world.
There are other less obvious points that match. He’s a smart guy with glasses, so am I. Lots of intersections there.
Heck, I even have a half Maine Coon cat! So I am half way there!
But in the end it was about people competing in a fun and good way that would have a hard time harming each other (though not impossibly) and generally were good sports about competing with each other in the same room. I do have a goal of getting my show filming up to that level if not taking it a step further.
